Working With Arcfluence
A guide to our process
How Projects Begin
Every project starts with a conversation. From there, clients typically choose one of two paths depending on where they are in their thinking.
Introductory Call
FreeA brief, informal conversation to talk at a high level about goals, timing, and general fit.
Design Consultation
$375A working session and the first step of architectural engagement.
Both options are available, and either can be the right place to start.
The Design Consultation
The design consultation is a one-hour working session focused on your project. During this time, we talk through what you're trying to accomplish, what constraints you're working within, and what questions feel unresolved.
This can include site considerations, program needs, budget realities, zoning issues, or broader design direction. Some clients arrive with sketches or clear ideas; others arrive with only a general sense of what they want to explore. The conversation is intentionally open.
If you move forward with Arcfluence, the fee is credited toward your project.
If you don't, you retain the work and insight from the session.
Scope & Proposal
Architecture depends heavily on context. Site conditions, jurisdictional requirements, existing structures, and project goals all influence how work is scoped and priced. For that reason, proposals are developed only after the consultation, once there is enough information to define the work responsibly.
Following the consultation:
- Scope, services, and anticipated timelines are outlined
- A proposal is prepared
- Once the contract is signed and a deposit is received, the project begins
Conceptual Design
This phase establishes the overall direction of the project. Work focuses on massing, proportion, and site placement, space planning and organization, exterior expression and overall architectural intent.
Multiple iterations are typically part of this phase. The outcome is a clear, agreed-upon concept that provides a strong foundation for technical development.
- Massing, proportion, and site placement
- Space planning and organization
- Exterior expression and overall architectural intent
Construction Documents
This is the technical phase of the project. Approved concepts are translated into detailed drawings suitable for permitting and construction.
- Finalize modeling based on conceptual design
- Code requirement documentation
- Schedules and systems coordination
- Consultant and engineering integration
Client interaction is limited during this phase due to its production-focused nature. One formal design review is included for questions and minor refinements.
Permit Approval
Completed drawings are submitted for permit review. Review timelines vary widely depending on jurisdiction.
Arcfluence's time responding to review comments, coordinating revisions and supporting resubmittals is billed hourly.
Construction Administration
Construction Administration keeps the architect involved during the build. The level of involvement depends on project complexity and the services defined in the proposal.
- Site visits
- Responding to contractor questions
- Reviewing submittals
- Assisting with unforeseen conditions
Services are typically structured as a small retainer with additional time billed hourly.
Next Steps
If you'd like to start with a brief introductory conversation, you're welcome to schedule a short call. If you're ready to engage more deeply, a design consultation is the next step.
